You could also look around at local studios as they will often offer that service if they have the necessary machines. Regardless, I'd wager that many of the tape transfer services online would likely be able to do transfers from digital tapes. ![]() I don't think linking a bunch of 2trk DAT machines was really ever a thing as all these formats came out fairly close together. This is all kinda moot if he does actually have DAT tapes as that will just be a master. ![]() Having recently finished archiving a bunch of DTRS tapes for the studio I work at, I can confirm that lining stuff up by hand with no reference is exactly as much fun as it sounds. Most places don't have multiple machines anymore and if you have a song with multiple tapes you will either have them line it up or line it up yourself. It can record over 2 hours on a single set of batteries. It can run off 2 AA batteries (not included) or the included USA AC adapter. The Sony PCM-M1 has been described by many as the best portable DAT Sony ever produced. ![]() This makes including tracking sheets really important as it will tell you what is on each track of the tape. The 3 major formats are DAT(2 track, tiny cassette), Tascam DTRS format (8 tracks on a Hi-8 size tape not compatible with hi-8), and Alesis ADAT (8 tracks on S-VHS tapes). Unfortunately, DAT is both a specific format and general name for digital tapes.
